Mammut Rocker Protection Airbag 15L version 3.0 the new Rocker packs are lighter and more flexible now having an airbag that is removable.
The new Airbag 3.0 system means that their most compact avalanche airbag just got even lighter and more comfortable while offering space for everything you need for freeriding
The Rocker Protection 15 is the most compact airbag of this range and is ideal for lift based off piste and a small day sack. However there is a full 15 L of space and lots of people find this plenty for lift based off piste, the new pack weighs only 2430g with a carbon cylinder with the airbag in the pack and the new style shoulder straps are much softer and more flexible than the older style Snowpulse straps.
The Protection series still offers full inflation of the airbag over the chest and around the head and neck area, which is a great benefit over other airbag systems on the market and one of the reasons here at Snowshepherd we love these Snowpulse packs.
Option is backpack only (no airbag fitted) or the Rocker Protection with the airbag pre installed and fitted.
All new Mammut Protection backpacks will take the Protection airbag, so you can swap between different models, such as the Ride Protection 22L, the Light Protection 30L, or the Pro Protection 35L model
What it says above no cylinder option you just pay for either the Rocker Backpack or the Rocker Backpack with airbag fitted.
Carbon 300 Bar Europe and Rest of the World
The new Carbon cylinder weighs in at only 235g empty and approx 310g full, significant weight saving. All other details the same as the standard 300 bar Steel.
If you are looking just to buy a Carbon cylinder to update your current Snowpulse or Mammut pack then please see the links at the bottom of the page.
Aluminium 207 Bar Refillable US and Can and the EU
The aluminium 207 bar is a refillable cylinder with pressure gauge, ideal if you want to keep practising inflating your airbag, they can be refilled at almost all dive shops and paint ball centres. They are heavier at 630g filled and longer than the 300 bar models, there is the same amount of air inside as the other cylinders it just a lower pressure system. WHY? Well in the US and Canada the regulations are different about filling these types of cylinders, plus the flight restrictions used to say 250ml, however this changed on the 1st Jan 2013 so you can now fly across Europe with this cylinder.
Flying with your Avalanche Airbag.
Please see our section on this here and what to do, it is much easier than it used to be. Internet talk about it being difficult is out of date or talking about the position in the USA and Canada which is a different position to Europe and the rest of the world.
The other significant improvement this season is that the back length is adjustable from a medium (small) to large and Xlarge, this means a number of things, the fit is better if you were between sizes and you can also transfer your airbag between people much easier now, oh and yes it means we don't have to worry about which size sells the most, one size fits all!

What Mammut say about the Protection range:
The Mammut® Protection Airbag System is the newly developed version of the well-known Snowpulse® Lifebag System. The special shape of the airbag and its clever integration in different backpacks are unique features. The shape of the airbag protects the wearer’s head, neck and chest area from mechanical injuries and in the event of an avalanche ensures an optimal position by keeping the wearer’s head and upper body on the surface.
The Protection Airbag can therefore not only help to prevent complete burial, it also offers additional protection from mechanical injuries.
In addition to the safety features, we have succeeded in designing a completely „removable“ airbag system.
This allows the user to swap one system between several backpacks, allowing him or her to always select the most suitable backpack for the relevant application.
Head on Top Technology
The „Head on Top Technology” ensures that in most cases the wearer comes to rest in a seated position with their back facing
down the slope and their head on the surface of the snow. This is the ideal position since the respiratory tracts are not covered by
snow, thus reducing the risk of suffocation. The background to the Head on Top Technology is the special shape and positioning of
the airbag. The main buoyancy volume of the airbag is located around and above the wearer’s head.
Around 20 % (varies depending on country and season) of deaths in avalanches are caused by trauma.
These are mechanical injuries incurred as the victim is swept along in the avalanche. Trauma occurs with even greater frequency
in areas below the tree line. These injuries are often in the head, neck and chest area. It is precisely these very sensitive areas of the
body which are protected by the special shape of the airbag.
We say this every year, please order early to avoid disappointment, we sell a huge amount of airbags, each year we order more, but still sell out very early in the season or even before the season starts! If you want to place a pre order with a deposit please contact us and we can sort this out for you.
