The New Vario ABS system is now lighter and a snugger fit to the body, its a base unit to which different backpacks can be attached with a very strong zipper to suit your requirements from a 8L day pack right up to a 45 +5L touring pack. This year the base unit comes with an 8L vario zip on as standard.
We think this is the most versatile and cost effective way of using an ABS system. Whatever you doing from ski areas to daytime ski outings, or crosscountry skiing from one hut to the next over a period of several days; with the Vario you have the ABS system that always allows for a backpack of suitable size. There are no situations where you will have to do without the proven ABS Avalanche Airbag System.
Who should be using?
To look at who should be using we need to look at who currently use ABS systems regularly, presently it’s predominantly off piste guides, powder skiing instructors, experienced touring skiers and boarders plus specific off piste resorts.
Also if you look closely you will notice that there are a considerable amount of seasonnaires, this group of people are the ones, who always carry a transceiver, shovel and probe and have done for many years, because they know the risks.
So, if you go off piste with a group of friends one of the group should be using an ABS system, if you, heaven forbid, go off piste by yourself then an ABS is the sensible thing even if you are not. There are many resorts where there are unpisted runs then an air bag is sensible if you are attempting these types of runs.
However put basically if you have already got a transceiver, shovel and probe and carry them regularly then you know that the next piece of kit is an air bag.
