Whitedot Skis Eclipse Hoody developed with leading British mountaineering brand Mountain Equipment, this is a super hoody top mid layer, we have tested them and they are incredibly warm and also very breathable, in Tignes first week, glacier temps were minus 20 and with just one merino layer and an outer shell this top really did do the business. Worn it all week and with the merino base layer under it it was still fresh enough to wear out and thats after a few hard skin ups because the lifts were not open!
Design is very Whitedot skis led, with a longer sleeve and longer body to suit the skier and also the ski mountaineer. The hood can also be used under your ski helmet giving a really warm addition on those freezing windy lifts.
Our verdict is get one and try it you will love this top the waffle weave traps air and makes this top super warm when you need it and breathable when you are hiking up the mountain, sizes are geared for male sizes but we found that the small mens were fine on smaller women as well.

The Story, why the Mountain Equipment x Whitedot Collaboration
We wanted to produce a ‘go to’ mid-layer that would be worn in all conditions with maximum versatility. And although we have some experience of clothing manufacturing, we turned to our friends at Mountain Equipment for real expertise in order to produce the latest technical features and the most active cut and shape. Mountain Equipment are amongst the finest in the outdoor clothing industry with over 50 years of knowledge, experience and passion for the mountains so they were our only choice for this development.
We have produced the Whitedot Eclipse Hooded Zip focused around the core material of Pontetorto® Technostretch fleece which allows for incredible warmth with minimal bulk. The active nature of our lifestyles was the basis for the development of the MExWD hoody so we used Lightweight Pontetorto® Technostretch fleece panels in key areas to allow for ease of movement and breathability. The under arm sections are a particular stress point in the motions of mountain life so these utilise the lightweight fleece panel along with the cuffs on the arms so that the integrated thumb holes are soft and unobtrusive when sealing inside a glove.
Throughout the years we have all used a variety of different garments and one of the main drawbacks we found with these products was that the actual length of the garments were too short when trying to create a good seal between clothing to keep out the elements. We designed the MExWD mid-layer with a longer length so that it would seal easily and comfortably between the mid and lower body, it tucks effortlessly into your ski pants or bib pants making sure any unwanted snow does not reach those unwelcome places.
Helmets are now common place within the mountains, across all sports, as they should be, with this in mind we engineered the close-fitting Lycra® hood so that it can comfortably be worn underneath a helmet (or beanie) when the elements get too much as maintaining body temperature is key.
Along with the form fitting hood we also off-set the zip so that when it is fully closed the zip and zipper do not chafe your chin and cause unnecessary discomfort and agitation, instead your chin rests comfortably and softly on the fleece lining around the high collar.
The final elements that we integrated into this mid-layer were a handy lift pass pocket on the left arm and the two raised pockets with a seam-less waist design. The lift pass pocket works great as it reduces struggle when finding your pass in your jacket that you stowed in your bag when you reach the lift line. With it being on the sleeve it is always at hand (literally) so you can easily manage your gear and yourself in the lift queue.
To ensure that the zip hoody would span all genres and mountain sports, we ensured that the two front pockets were raised to chest height and left the lower, torso section seam-less so that you could easily accommodate a climbing or a lightweight ski touring harness. Due to the flat lock stitching between the ergonomically formed material joins it stops aggravation or material folds when wearing a rucksack or climbing harness.
